ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

We are a Registered Charity no. 512966 who have been rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing the cats of Sandbach and surrounding areas for over  40 years.

The rescue is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and relies totally on fundraising and donations to survive.

We aim to re-home cats permanently and we foster many temporarily. In some cases, we provide continuing support to cats with special needs to allow them and their owners to live as happily as possible. As a charity, our supporters and volunteers are essential to our existence

OUR MISSION

Supporting Behaviours

Respect: We create an inclusive and supportive workplace culture where every individual is valued, treated fairly, and given equal opportunities for growth and development. Respect involves recognising and appreciating the unique skills, perspectives, and contributions of each volunteer, regardless of their position, background, or identity.

Teamwork: We work together collaboratively, leveraging our diverse skills, knowledge, and experiences to achieve our objectives. In our environment, our volunteers support and complement each other, working towards a collective outcome greater than what any individual could accomplish alone.

Continuous Learning: Being open to new information and ideas, staying informed about developments in animal welfare and rescue practices, and continuously improving our skills and knowledge we ensure we are always equipped to provide exceptional care for our cats.

Challenge: We respect others’ opinions and do not fear speaking out when things are not right or can be improved. Our volunteers are empowered to push boundaries, take calculated risks, and strive for excellence in their work. Challenges are viewed not as obstacles, but as opportunities for learning, development, and innovation.

Dedication: Volunteers go above and beyond their roles, investing their time, energy, and talents to deliver exceptional results. Showing unwavering commitment to the mission of the rescue, even in the face of challenges or setbacks. Honouring our commitments, responding to requests, being contactable and supporting our fellow volunteers are visible signs of our dedication.

By embodying these behaviours, individuals involved in SARS can effectively contribute to the organisation’s mission of saving and improving the lives of cats in need.

OUR RESCUE

At the start of 2020 we took the brave decision to start a major rebuild of our rescue which was in need of an overhaul for the future.

The vision was to make it a premier purpose-built cat rescue and rehoming centre, serving Sandbach and the surrounding areas.

We did not forsee a global pandemic challenging our progressive plans for the rescue making 2020 incredibly challenging for our usual fundraising events.  However, we did not lose heart, we galvanised as a team, cemented our views that the rescue must stay fully open to support all cats in need.

We temporarily moved home for over six months, relied heavily on our wonderful foster families and doubled down our efforts to see over 150 cats and kitten find their forever homes.

2021 has seen the opening of the renovated rescue which has made an incredible difference for us to be able to offer the highest quality of rehabilitative care for our residents.

OUR PROGRESSION

Over the previous months, Sandbach Animal Rescue has undergone a major upgrade and refurbishment, to enable the rescue to offer the best possible care and treatment for the homeless, abandoned and injured cats and kittens they care for. The extension and interior part of the upgrade is complete, but to complete the renovation we needed to provide an outdoor Catio.

Although they have been domesticated for a very long time, cats still have some of the instincts that make them want to roam around freely, and satisfy their natural curiosity for exploring. They also enjoy fresh air and sunlight, and if there is nothing else for them to do, they can entertain themselves for hours by simply watching the world go by. An outdoor enclosure will also provide environmental enrichment, which is critical to a cats mental and physical health

The outdoor Catio is equipped with multiple features and toys that keep cats busy and active. It also helps satisfy their natural desire for a little adventure by allowing the cats and kittens to play, climb, jump, run around, and explore.

In addition to all these benefits, it aids in helping them to socialize with people and help to promote good relationships and/or reduce stress and issues between cats while they wait for their forever homes
