About Us
The Society
The society was set up in 1981 to rescue and re-home stray and unwanted animals. It is run entirely by volunteers who strive to provide a better life for the animals of Sandbach and the surrounding area. The society receives no money from the government but relies purely on fundraising to cover its costs, which are in excess of £20,000 per year. These costs include advertising and promotion, food, heating and lighting for the animals currently in care and, of course, vets bills. All animals are thoroughly checked by the vet, neutered and given treatment, if necessary.
Fundraising
Each month there is a jumble sale and market held in St Mary’s church hall, just off the cobbles in Sandbach. This is the main fundraising activity as it is a popular event. Many people come to buy from the range of books, clothes, plants and bric-a-brac on sale. Refreshments are also served, with bacon sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks etc. at amazing prices.
The society also holds an exceptionally popular fun dog show each year in the Town Park.
There are various other events throughout the year, such as bingo nights, raffles and markets stalls.
Animal Care
When any animal is brought to the society it is taken straight to the vet for a check-up. If the animal is chipped the owner will be traced and, hopefully, reunited with their pet. If the animal does not have a home then it will be taken into care until a suitable home can be found. There is a full equipped cattery at Moston with space for several cats and kittens. All rescue dogs go to Stilesmeadow Dog Sanctuary in Bosley, near Congelton. |
